UNIQUE 1930s 1940s Vintage White & Blue Seersucker Raised Plaid Cotton Shirtwaist Day Dress - Md
A lovely vintage cotton day dress with a very unique pattern/texture. Overall the dress is like a white seersucker, but the fabric has been overlayed with a blue and white raised pattern that gives the piece an almost plaid effect (see up close image). There are blue buttons (which actually are decorative as the piece snap closes there) and a blue belt buckle to complete the look. Fabric feels like cotton. There are no labels or size tags. The piece appears to be homemade (but done really well!!). Fabric and style suggest that its from the 30s, possibly early 40s. The garment is a pull on piece, the only closures are the snaps behind the buttons. As such it would likely best fit a modern Medium but please see measurements and PLEASE take into consideration that this a pull over piece and fabric is NOT stretchy!! Model is a modern 4/6 and dress form is modern Medium for reference.

Measurements :
Bust: 46 inches from flat lay, but the cut seems a bit dolman-like to me as it flares out AND I truly think the style is meant to be a bit blousy (bust of dress form is 36 for reference).
Waist: 34 inches
Hips: 41 inches
Length: 45 inches from shoulder, down
Sleeve Length: about 4 inches, as there is no shoulder seam to measure from
Good vintage condition- Overall expected wear to piece. There are a few areas of discoloration/faint yellowing to the white fabric. In the photos this seems to present as shadow. Some wear/marks to the belt buckle and buttons (the belt is a VERY close match, but is a later addition by myself as the original buckle was missing). Some past mends found in places as well as a few small pin holes and marks found on the piece. There are some pulls to the raised “plaid” in places.
All measurements are approximate as they are taken flat - for garments specifically this means where applicable (bust, waist, hips) has been doubled unless stated otherwise. If you are uncertain about fit and/or need more measurements please ask! If it is provided in the listing, models and/or dress form sizes are used as a point of reference only. Please remember that all bodies are different so always defer to the measurements I provide and check them against your own, preferably on a similar style garment. If you need more information about my measurements and vintage sizing please refer to my FAQs section under my Shop Policies page and ask me, I am here to help!!
