1960s 1970s Vintage Creamy Natural Colored Cotton Kaftan with Bright Rainbow Colored Embroidery - Sm to Md

$109.00

This lovely vintage kaftan is a great piece to add to your collection. The fabric base is that off white or cream color of canvas or minimally processed cotton, you can even see some of the dark spot in the weave when you look closely. I absolutely love the elaborate and brightly colored embroidery detailing on the sleeves, hem, and collar. I will be honest, I am not sure to what date or ethnicity this piece came from, though it was amongst a collection of 60s/70s vintage Mexican clothing - The other clothing tags are dated to the 60s/70s and say from Mexico. It is possible that given the context it is from the same time and place, but I cannot determine this with certainty. It is loose fitting and comfy. Fabric feels like a heavy cotton and does not have give. No label was found but says vintage size 36. Would likely best fit a modern Small to Medium, depending on how you like fit. It is a pull over piece, so keep that in mind and please see measurements. For reference model is modern size 4/6.

Approximate Measurements from flat lay (see image) :

Bust: 40 inches

Waist: 36 inches

Hips: 40 inches

Length: about 57 inches from top of shoulder, down

Sleeve Length: about 13 inches, no shoulder seem to measure from

Good vintage condition - Some overall wear to fabric with some pulls and pilling to the piece in places. The overall weave of the fabric though is a bit more rough and I do think its more minimally processed cotton given the darker spots within the weave (see up close), so a lot of the wear is not as obvious. There are some areas of discoloration (especially on the inner collar) as well as numerous marks to the piece that did not come out with cleaning. I tired to scrub at these marks and spots, but nothing would lift. That said I did not attempt long term soaking with extreme cleaning solutions because I was afraid of color run from the embroidery. You can always attempt that, but I cant guarantee that it wont run color onto the cotton. There is already a small amount of color run I found on the piece, but thankfully it is faint. There are a few pulls and loose threads to the fabric and embroidery but seems minimal overall. Some wear to the inner seam allotments as well.

Please note regarding cleaning- I did hand wash this with very minimal color run! YAY! But if you prefer dry cleaning ask your cleaners before purchasing this piece as my own dry cleaners decided after much deliberation that they did not want to attempt cleaning this piece given the color of the embroidery as they were afraid of color run. I was too, so totally fair! Just make sure you ask though!
