RARE 1940s Vintage Cream Eyelet Lace and Rhinestone Organza Strapless Wedding Evening Gown - XXS or XS
If you’re looking for a show stopper, this gown is for you! I have never seen anything like it. The lovely cotton eyelet lace and rhinestones on the boned bodice is so elegant. The added asymmetrical peplum is so unique too! The double layer of semi sheer- gauzy organza skirt adds such a delicate touch. The dress is just so whimsical and clearly expertly made. There is no tags in it to indicate who made this piece and given the estate I got it from, it was likely one of the many custom made gowns this woman owned. Zips up the side with a metal zipper. Best fits an XXS or XS. Model is modern size 4/6 and it would not zip up (its being held up to the best of my abilities in the photo and as such its fit looks somewhat loose). Model is also 5’5 and this dress is VERY long on her. You may be able to put a crinoline or smaller hoop underneath to puff it out, though I am not sure you can go too large unless you lay it over the innermost skirt.
Measurements :
Bust: about 30 inches (from flat lay), maybe a smidge more when pulled taught to try and account for darting, but not much.
Waist: 23.5 inches maximum- no give at all to fabric
Hips: relatively open given skirt type
Length (top of bust down): 59 inches
Good to Fair vintage condition - Overall wear to the piece but presents beautifully and still seams very wearable. There is some overall greying/yellowing to the piece. While I did delicately wash the gown a number of times, there are still a number of marks and stains remaining throughout the piece. With all the skirt fabric though, to my eye at least I didn’t think they were too terribly noticeable overall. Further faint markings on the hem of the inner skirts were also found. The rhinestones do not appear to be missing (though some are cloudy), but of course that could be overlooked on my part, so if any are gone or damaged it’s not obvious. Lace appears to be in good shape overall with only a few loose threads and minor wear and just some of the edges bending down around the bodice (these could be stiffened). There is some minor rip to the inner tulle underneath the lace right by the zipper. Wear to inner seam allotments. Please see photos.
Please note, given the fabric this item will likely be wrinkled upon delivery- please hang it up immediately.
All measurements are approximate as they are taken flat - for garments specifically this means where applicable (bust, waist, hips) has been doubled unless stated otherwise. If you are uncertain about fit and/or need more measurements please ask! If it is provided in the listing, models and/or dress form sizes are used as a point of reference only. Please remember that all bodies are different so always defer to the measurements I provide and check them against your own, preferably on a similar style garment. If you need more information about my measurements and vintage sizing please refer to my FAQs section under my Shop Policies page and ask me, I am here to help!!
